We will pick out a surprise give-away sometime in the middle of next week.

Voile Scarf

Ok, I have to post on the Anna Maria Horner Voile again because it is so luscious.

This photo is not great but it was a last minute photo before wrapping up this great scarf I made for a Christmas present. I used two 1/3 yard pieces sewn together at one end so the piece measures about 12" x 112". Then I folded it lengthwise with right sides together and ironed it. I sewed across each end and down the sides to a point in the middle leaving about 5 inches open. I turned it right side out and hand stitched the hole closed, ironing it well after. This makes a really nice, soft, long scarf in about 20 minutes flat. What a great gift.

Today I am going to give away enough of one of Anna's fabrics to make one of these scarves.

Email in any pictures you have of hand-made gifts you have made this holiday season to our email, intownquilters@earthlink.net. Make sure to put scarf post in the subject line so I notice the emails amongst the hundreds I get daily.

And the winner of the bird fat quarters is....

Jane from Duluth. Jane come see us sometime to pick up your fats or email the shop if you want us to mail them.

Congrats!

I love it...

Leah won the Anna Maria Horner flannel fat quarter give-away. Leah, come on in and pick out five fats you would like since you are local.

As for todays' give-away. In honor of a really neat youtube video on my friend Shannon's blog we are going to give away five fat quarters with birds on them. The video is really cool so make sure you go look at it! Then  come back and tell us if you like birds or not since some people just love them and others have a real aversion to them.

Make sure when you comment that there is a way we can link back to you if you win. Anonymous commenters are too hard to get in touch with, so you may not ever win that way.

December 2nd winner announcement!

Kimber Medley won the December 2nd give-away. Kimberly, email us your address to send out your fat quarters and let me know which line you want them from.

Anna Maria Horner Fabric in!

Yeah,

We are so excited that we got in most of the Anna Maria Horner fabric we ordered from Free Spirit Fabrics. You can see here, the Dobby Dots in the stripes, the blue colorway of the panel, a dress made out of some of the Voile and swatches of all of the flannel. All the fabric is so luscious! You just have to fondle it.

Anna had some of the cutest little kids' clothing made out of the Dobby Dots and Voile in her booth at market. The fabric is so soft that it is perfect for a baby's skin. It would also make great spring and summer weight clothing for us big people.

Also Anna is coming out with a new book in the spring called Handmade Beginnings which you should watch our for because it has some great projects for new babies, which leads us to our next give-away. Send us in your comments about what your favorite new-baby gift is that you like to give. I think for our give-away for today, we will give away five fat quarters from the Folksy flannel group. This flannel is so soft, it would make some great burp cloths, diaper-covers, and new-baby blankets.

Hoffman Challenge

Well, we do not have a winner for the Beyond the Block give-away, so we will extend that one until Saturday December 19th.

We wanted to let you all know that we have the Hoffman Challenge fabric in now.

Started in 1988, the Hoffman Challenge has grown to be a premiere traveling quilt, clothing, and doll collection. The quality of entries and a growing number of exhibit requests have led us to establish additional traveling collections.

This year the Hoffman Challenge is celebrating its 23rd Anniversary. In 1987 the Challenge started with 94 enthusiastic quilters, and some years the number of entries has grown to more than 700. In addition to the three quilt categories (pieced, appliqué and mixed technique), new categories include clothing (wearable art), accessories, and dolls.

We would love to have you all take part in the Hoffman Challenge. I think we will have a little challenge of our own. Make a project following the rules on the Hoffman Challenge website http://www.hoffmanchallenge.com/entry_rules.html and using a piece of fabric from Intown Quilters (keep your receipt to show us), then bring or mail us a 3" x 5" photograph of your photograph to be received by June 19th. We will put all the photos in a bucket and draw out three of them as winners of a $50 gift certificate at Intown Quilters.

Write in to us your comments by midnight on the 15th about whether you plan to take part in the Hoffman Challenge or not. We will pick a random winner and send the winner a fat quarter of the Hoffman challenge and four fat quarters from some of the coordinating fabrics.

We are still waiting for rattie4fun to send in an address for the Flora & Fauna prize.

Twelve Days of Christmas, Gee's Bend kit give-away

We are very excited to have the fabrics and kits of the Gee's Bend Collection put out by Baum Textiles. This Strips and Strings quilt is one of the four kits available made with this luscious fabric. Intown Quilters will be giving away a kit.

The Gee's Bend quilts and quilters are quite controversial among other quilters. Some love the quilts and some do not. Tell us what you thought of the Gee's Bend quilts when you saw them at a museum or gallery. We will pick a name from all of the commenters and send that person the kit of the quilt pictured here. We will only pay for shipping within the US. You are welcome to take part if you live outside the US, but please be prepared to pay for the shipping if you win.

Sheila, our resident hand quilting expert, who also cleans and repairs old quilts says that the colors, tone and feel of the Gee's Bend fabrics make them an excellent candidate to be use in old quilt repair.

As for the winner of yesterday's give-away....Rattie4fun won. Please get on touch with us at intownquilters@earthlink.net with you address to send your prize!

Dolly Dresses Up really cute!

While at Quilt Market in Houston in October, we saw Holly Holderman's new Dolly Dresses fabric lines. We just thought it was so cute and then.....

Taffy got to talking with Holly about taking part in this Dolly Dresses blogging event. We have seen some really cute quilts so far from some very creative folks!

Well everyone, here is Taffy's great Dolly Dress Up quilt. She had fun collecting some of the embellishments for it.

We will be offering a kit (including fabric for the top, binding and embellishments) for pre-order at the website at a special price of $40 until 1/31/2010. After that the price revert to the normal price of $55.

We are also kicking off a Twelve Days of Christmas give-away event in honor of Holly Holderman's blogging event, so keep watching our blog because we will have a give-away each day for the next twelve days.

Today's give-away will be one of these kits for Taffy's Dolly Dresses quilt. Send us in your comments on all the quilts you have seen so far during this blogging event. When the event is over we will pick a winner and reserve a kit spot for you to mail you just as soon as the kits are made in April. Remember we only ship free within to US.

Christmas Stocking

Thank goodness there is always a new baby. Jerry, a 2009 arrival, lives next door to me and needed a Christmas stocking to keep up with his 2 big sisters. I got it finished and delivered yesterday.

Dolly Dress Up Blog

Hi All!

The Dolly Dress Up blog kicked off today. Check out Holly's blog here and then follow the link through Holly's blog to see what the Jolly Jabber put together with Holly's great fabric. The quilt is fantastic.

Make sure to check out each designer's quilt for the next two weeks on Holly's blog.

We get to show off Taffy's quilt on Tuesday the 8th so come see what we are up to with ours on Tuesday. We will be having our own 12 days of Christmas with a series of 12 give-aways each day starting on the 8th so be thinking of comments to make .

The first day, December 8th, we will start off with comments about Taffy's quilt so make sure to come see it on the 8th. I will announce the first give-away goody on the 8th when Taffy posts the picture of her quilt.

Don't forget to keep posting comments about the fabric you have been waiting to see from one of your favorite designers. We are giving away five fat quarters from your choice of one of the line listed in that blog. Click here to revisit that post.

New fabric just in and give-away!

We have just gotten in some great new fabric. The latest lines by Heather Bailey (Nicey Jane), Jenean Morrison (California Dreamin') and Denyse Schmidt (Hope Valley), in the quilt pictured to the left. Isn't is really pretty?

Let's have a give-away to go with this new post. We will give away five fat quarters from one of the new lines listed here. You can choose which line you would like to have your five fat quarters from.  To be elligible for the give-away, you need to post a comment here about which fabric you have been waiting the most to see come out from all the designers you follow. On Saturday December 14th we will announce the winner of the give-away. We will only ship items within the US. Post away!

We also now have in the whole line of the Gee's Bend fabrics, which are actually a batik, very much like hand-dyes. We have the kits in stock, too, although they are going.

Another fun new line is "Frolic" by In The Beginning Fabrics. It will make some great baby and kids quilts and comes in three color-ways that blend nicely together. One possible quilt idea is pictured here to the right.

Dolly Dresses Quilts

Sarah & I met up with Holly Holderman, the creative mind behind Lakehouse Drygoods. Her newest line of fabrics is "Dolly Dresses" featuring a dozen of the cutest doll dresses we've seen yet. Holly's blog  is featuring a 12 days of Christmas fest with a new quilt, by a different designer, featuring the dolly dresses, every day for 12 days.

I have been working on one of the dresses and am really excited, hoping to see it on Holly's blog. Here is a little swatch of the fabric on one of the blocks I have been working on. Just wait until you see how cute all the quilts will be. It all begins on Friday, December 4th, so make sure you check back on our blog to see what all the hype is about.
